Software engineering of large and complex systems depends on three critical success factors: design, management and people. This contribution focuses on the factor people based on the real life experience of a software company of 700 people. Our selection of those people concentrates on abilities not on skills. Continuing education covers both, educating the personality as well as technological knowledge and skills. Skill and knowledge management are supported by a powerful tool.
